During Lent, Christians throughout the world seek to follow Christ into the wilderness. For 40 days, we seek solitude and and return to the disciplines of our faith that challenge us, nourish us, and give us joy.

There is nothing magical about Lenten disciplines. Lenten disciplines are simply things we do that turn our minds and hearts back to God and help us get back into a right relationship with God. They are self-examination, repentance, prayer, fasting, self-denial, and reading and meditating on scripture.

While carnival season is New Orleans is lost of fun, the Lenten season is absolutely wonderful. For in the wilderness, we find our hearts, and it is there that God will again give us the peace and joy for which we all long.

“Be still, and know that I am God”  -Psalm 46:10

What is Centering Prayer?
Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of Contemplative Prayer by preparing our faculties to receive this gift. It is an attempt to present the teaching of earlier times in an updated form. Centering Prayer is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer: rather it casts a new light and depth of meaning on them. It is at the same time a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship. This method of prayer is a movement beyond conversation with Christ to communion with him.
